In her own words – My client wanted interior design using earthy colors. But that is just the surface. What, exactly, did that mean to her and her lifestyle?
As an interior designer, I’ve always believed that a home should be a reflection of the owner’s spirit and a sanctuary from the world’s chaos. In my latest project, featured in this blog post, I had the pleasure of working with a client who shared this belief. She sought an interior that was not only timeless and comfortable but also imbued with her unique personality and a touch of sophistication. Her desire for easy-care fabrics and a connection to nature led us to choose earthy colors and textures that evoke a sense of tranquility and grounding. Here are my client’s thoughts on this project:
Timeless, comfortable, inviting, relaxed and unfussy… yet also unique, personal and slightly sophisticated. Nothing too wild or trendy, but a departure from mainstream looks.
Fabrics on the larger pieces needed to be easy care. I wanted the spaces to help me feel grounded. I find the greatest inspiration in nature, so it was important to include earthy colors and textures.

How did she like the design process and her results?
I was initially reluctant to contact a designer because I’d never worked with one before. I was afraid of becoming a victim of someone else’s ideas. (Boy, was I wrong!) Laura made suggestions, then gave me space to browse and select what I liked. She validated my choices and helped assure me that the pieces would come together in a cohesive manner.
My heart’s desire was moss green velvet. I was elated when Laura checked on new fabrics and found the perfect green velvet for me. What’s more, it is a performance fabric!

We are delighted with the results! They couldn’t be more perfect. What initially felt like a pipedream is now reality in my home.
I try to sit in the “calming corner” at least once a day, even for just a few minutes. I chose the chairs specifically to fit ME – because a lot of furniture is the wrong scale for my body. They’re so comfortable! It truly is a great place to relax.

Laura’s Thoughts
The Louise sofa and cuddle chairs we selected are the epitome of this vision. Optional their subtle button tufting adding a sophisticated distinction between the pieces. My client’s initial reluctance to work with a designer stemmed from a fear of losing her voice in the design process. However, our collaborative approach allowed her to explore and select pieces that truly spoke to her. Culminating in the discovery of the perfect moss green velvet! A performance fabric that ticked all the boxes of beauty and functionality.

The result of our journey together is a space that my client adores. The design not only met her expectations but exceeded them. We transforming what once felt like a distant dream into a tangible reality. Her “calming corner” is a testament to the power of personalized design. It is a space where she can unwind daily in chairs that are just the right scale for her comfort.
In conclusion, this project has been a beautiful reminder of the magic that happens when a designer and client are in sync. The joy and satisfaction my client feels in her newly designed space are the ultimate rewards of my work. It’s a space that’s not just seen but felt, a true haven inspired by the earth’s colors and the client’s vision.
