By Madison Wozniak & Laura Beeler
Sometimes our designers team up on large projects to give our clients the best of everything. Maddie and Laura teamed with their client to create an Eclectic Modern Interior Design for their West Des Moines home. We think it is a home with a sophisticated yet very inviting look.
This new look had to function well for daily life with a dog, but also needed to seat big gatherings on the occasion. Dark cork floors flooded the majority of the home, creating a challenge to lighten and soften each room. With the scale of this home, our biggest goal of all is to give each room a true purpose.
Our client was interested in blacks, whites, and had a favored interest in the color orange. We kept comfort high on the priority list while working with the client to create her dream home that would be both practical and beautiful.
Retro Alcove
With high interest and intrigue, the retro alcove sits adjacent to the entry, drawing you further into the home. This room has high excitement for vinyl lovers and music junkies. An orange sectional with a striking blue bubble welt offers the perfect high comfort, color stimulation experience for enjoying your favorite tunes.
The curved forms and strong colors in this room lends itself to a retro-inspired style with geometrics and bright color play. The sectional dominates the room while the rug ties the colors of surrounding art and accessories. It is an intimate space, though loud and artistic. What a wonderful contrast!
The console plays off the curved wall and retro inspiration with its “vintage camper” approach. Two cocktail tables mimic the geometric shapes of the rug, while the sectional pillows suggest more organic shapes. The floor lamp gives an interesting globe downlighting to promote the intimacy that this retro alcove desires. The sectional nestles perfectly into the challenge of a curved wall, really enhancing the coziness of this space.
Great Room in Eclectic Modern Interior Design
The hope for the great room was to be comfortable and durable, accompanied by ample seating for gatherings. We wanted everyone to have the best seat in the room and with this setting, why not?
The expansive windows draw in lots of natural light, visually bringing the outdoors in. The vivid colors in the retro alcove transition into warmer caramel tones. In this room, the play of texture is important to add visual interest against the smooth surfaces.
The leather sectional commands attention, while the swivel chairs adjust to conversation. A large black coffee table adds contrast to the leather and fabrics in the room, anchoring the space. The large scale of the lamps offset the height of the tall ceilings. Combined, this room acts as a hub for entertainment and comfort.
Breakfast Nook
A cozy breakfast nook is right around the corner inviting you to sit and enjoy. The modern bistro table is complimented with four sling-back leather chairs. The multi-textured chairs soften the look of the metal table with a mid-century modern approach. Who wouldn’t want to eat their breakfast here every morning?
Dining Room in Eclectic Modern Interior Design
The dining room brings together good friends, good food, and good times. Our purpose for this room is to accommodate for all of that and more!
This substantial dining table keeps warmth flowing throughout the home with its gorgeous amaretto finish. Curvy barrel chairs add to the clients artistic style with a bold use of fabric. These caster chairs make it easy to add extra seating to any other room. The side chairs are interesting on their own, featuring a wrapped metal base. A neutral tweed rug acts as a good backdrop to let the rest of the furniture shine. Three gorgeous black and white sculptures rest on the table top to give the perfect finishing touches.
The Study
A once empty room is now a multi-functional study in our chosen eclectic modern interior design style. From working at home, to reading and crocheting, this is the perfect spot to get inspired. A floating desk allows for work to feel less taxing, while complimenting the existing cabinets.
A moody, sea inspired rug set the stage for designing this room. It subtly contrasts the dark floors, softening the hard surfaces. The tranquil sitting area features a cuddle chair and ottoman that acts as a retreat to help balance the room, all while complimenting the urban style of the desk. The furry fabric with fun pillows makes this the perfect place to cozy up with your pet.
Main Bedroom
Bring on the drama! This black steel canopy bed immediately catches your eye and draws you in. The steel is offset by a warm wood on the headboard and nightstands. This room is delightfully uncommon with windows on both sides. If you have an unusual feature like this – USE IT! As daylight seeps through, the stacked crystal stones of the table lamps act as jewelry to the room.
The black and white stripe is boldly displayed on the ottoman, yet more subtle in the rug. This neutral scheme allows you to accent your bedding with any pops of color. We all love the ability to customize our own look!
There is a unified thread of black and white throughout the home, with each room feeling unique and purposeful. This eclectic modern interior design style draws in functional comfort and is tailored to our clients artistic style. Whether one room or an entire home, let us help you find your own individualized style.
