A Casually Organic Home

The beauty of working with clients over the long-term is knowing their style. I can more easily grasp the right look for them (of course sophisticated looks are always changing). After designing three rooms together, we have finally come to the area of the house where the clients will spend most of their time—the Great Room and Dining Room!

Spending time with family and entertaining friends are the main missions of this space. We want to invite those loved ones into a warm and welcoming space. Luckily, these rooms are the hub of the house, sitting right off of the kitchen and entry. Perfect! Our secondary goals were to maximize comfortable seating and utilize the whole space effectively.

The couple never quite hit on the right furnishings to meet all of their desires in the past. They were definitely trying to stay away from that shabby look that comes with a well-lived space. Luckily, Laura knew their style and could help them bring the vision to life!

The Design Process

In order to create a functional layout, adjustments were needed for both the dining and great room. The oval shape of the dining table better fills the space and allows for more people to gather with its self-storing leaf. A sectional with two chairs was the perfect fit in the great room for maximizing comfortable seating and creating a flowing circulation. A beverage center is an added surprise for the clients on the wall behind the sectional. It adds flow of their entertainment from the kitchen to the family room.

The clients wanted fresh and classic colors that enhance the look of their brand-new wood flooring. Tones of blue have been a common thread throughout the house in all different shades, so it made sense to reflect that into these spaces as well.

“WOW! The colors are just perfectly put together in the space! Laura, was on point with every design selection and captured all of our request for function, space and style!”

This casual and organic palette combines a deep ocean blue Annette swivel chair with oh-so-inviting wide-wale corduroy pillows. The rich caramel leather recliner is highlighted by the neutral pearl-colored Lawson Sectional. The whole room centers on the shape-centric Brooklyn cocktail table.

The Kandace maple tabletop nods to the new floors below while being accented by its black base and chairs. This is reflected in the Corridor Bar and counter stools as well. The beverage center offers great storage and a carefree matte glass top, while the woven pendant light adds some nice texture to an otherwise smooth kitchen and eating area.

An Organic Outcome

“The rug is remarkable, not only tying together all of the furniture and color selections but the existing features of the home; the beams and fireplace brick. The coffee table is one of a kind and the conversation piece we never knew we would love as much as we do! The recliner is every family member’s dream and swivel chair is the hit of the year with our teenage daughters! Laura, hit it out of the park yet again. We are so thankful for her!”

Statement art above the neutral sectional draws you in by creating a moodiness in the room. The area rug reflects the colors in the art, solidifying its intention. The cocktail table compliments the floors perfectly! Look at that match!

The new dining set allows for increased daylight through its geometric base and open-back chairs. The tones in this room reflect directly into the recliner, pillows, and cocktail table of the neighboring space. This personalized design creates a casually organic space that is comfortable, style-forward, and truly timeless!
