Updating a living space to be both practical and stylish can be a daunting task for homeowners, especially when there are kids and pets in the picture. Luckily, Jessica was ready and willing to take on this challenge for her client, Adam.
Understanding the space
Before starting, Jessica paid Adam a visit at his home – to not only get a feel for the space – but further understand what Adam needed from the space. Upon review, it was clear that there were a few simple, but important, requirements:
- The space must serve as a multi-purpose dining and living room.
- The ideal palette should be comforting, timeless, and neutral. It must be both practical and stylish.
- The floor plan and furnishings should be durable and forgiving to accommodate kids and pets. Just being real.
Living Space BEFORE
Designing a functional space
After gathering the requirements, Jessica came back to the store to get started on the floor plan. Her first priority was to create a floor plan that allowed the space to serve as both a dining and living room. She quickly realized that including a smaller, slim dining table in front of the windows allowed the sectional sofa to have a clear sightline to both the television and the table, creating an inviting space for open conversation.
From there, she focused on finding timeless, neutral furniture and fabric selections that matched Adam’s style.
For the living area, Jessica and Adam decided on the stylish and forgiving Colton sectional with its multi-colored tweed fabric, paired caramel-colored pillows and an accent wall.
A console table for holding records and a record player would mirror the wooden side tables on the other end of the sectional. Since Adam works from home, the lift coffee table would provide a comfortable work environment. The use of multifunctional furniture was an excellent solution for this limited space.
As for the dining area, they selected the incredibly durable and low-maintenance ceramic Calcutta Black Marble top of the Omnia table, surrounded by faux leather Pedro dining chairs that would be easy to clean and maintain. This dining set would offer a high-end look while remaining practical and stylish.
The complete look
To prepare for the new furniture, Jessica collaborated with Adam to have the walls painted and a new floor installed in the space. Once the furniture arrived, the space came together beautifully, turning Adam’s vision of a practical and stylish living area into a reality.
“I absolutely love everything!!! I have received so many compliments . . . a lot of people say it looks like a magazine shoot!”
