Interior Design in Des Moines for a Teacher’s New Home

Every new client we serve in Des Moines and Iowa area offers us new challenges and opportunities. Interior design projects like these are deeply personal. And that is what we love most about them.

We love referrals here at BY DESIGN! I had the pleasure of meeting Stacy Hoffman when she was referred to us by her sister Tracy, a long-time BD client! Stacy just built a new home and had to make a thousand decisions. Now she was facing even more. This can be very tough.

The Hoffman Room before

As you can see it was a gorgeous, well lit space when we started, leaving room for endless creativity! There is a downside to a big, new, empty space though. It is a daunting blank page. We understand that this process can be nerve-racking for our clients. Our job as interior designers in Des Moines is to relieve that stress by taking it on ourselves. We understand that each purchase is an investment and big decisions like this take time.

The Milford Sectional: strong, clean lines.

For major seating, Stacy chose a bold Norwalk Milford Wedge Sectional. Good call: we all absolutely love the Milford. Milford’s style plays on the modern transitional side with its clean simple silhouette and generous track arm. Durability and cleanability was very important to Stacy so we chose a black Crypton fabric. Crypton resists stains, resists fading and cleans easily!

With a gorgeous view like this one and an open floor plan into the kitchen what better place to add a swivel chair or two! Stacy chose the Sally swivel. Perfect for the big game (Go Hawks) or a little girl talk while enjoying the great view. And glass of wine!

After getting to know Stacy better, I was able to help her with the layout of her space. We found found timeless pieces she will be able to enjoy for many years to come. It’s easy to let this process overwhelm you. Therefore, we take it one room at a time to make it a painless project for our clients. Of course, I love the process. But not everyone does. So I try to keep that in mind when working on a multiple room project such as this one. Stacy and I will be working together to find the perfect dining and counter stools in the next phase of this project.

These two photos illustrate some of the colors and textures we chose for this project. The room began with stone, wood and natural light. We’ve added woven-look color, nubby neutrals and soft patterned fabrics. The mirror reflects even more light and. along with the chrome nailheads, adds a touch of elegance.

The Lilly Ottoman

Did I mention Stacy is a full time teacher?!  She will most definitely need to kick her feet up after a long day at work! Being a mother of two boys, I have the utmost respect for all our hard working teachers and staff! I repeat, please kick your feet up and relax, Stacy!! She selected one of our best selling ottomans, the Lilly with its intricate nail heads and smooth sleek look. Serving its purpose with style! It’s no wonder it’s a hit with so many of our customers!
