Ann Romney Women in Business event at by Design

Democrats, Republicans, Methodists, Catholics,  Vegetarians….

Whatever you are—it doesn’t really matter.  We are all Americans and live in the best country in the world.

We had a great time with Ann Romney at the Women in Business Rally here at our store on Sept 20.

How did this come about?  Well, our daughter, Lyndsay,  was in a sorority when she was at ISU.  Her sorority sister, Samantha Clarke (no relation), just graduated from law School and is working on the Romney Campaign in Iowa.  They were looking for a place that could host 200-400 people at a rally.  She called and asked us if we had room.  We weren’t sure but , of course, my first thought was that I love to have people in our store.  When people see our store, they usually love it and , hopefully, will buy from us.

So we met and decided we could have the rally in our warehouse.  You can see from the pictures, that it worked out really well.  The Production crew took care of everything and we had a great experience.  We did not have to do any of the work.

I gave a 5 minute speech and got to introduce the Lieutenant Governor, Kim Reynolds.  She was amazing.  She has so much charm.  I loved her!

She introduced Ann Romney.  What a lovely lady!  She was warm and gave a wonderful talk.  She loved our store  and was very interested in our family.  You can tell that family is very important to her and that she loves her husband.  Very nice!

They cleared everything  out by 8:30 that night.  We had our warehouse back to normal by 11:00 the next morning.  They kept saying to us—please let us do everything.  So we did!

It was a really great experience for us here at by Design.  We got a ton of free publicity and for a small family business–that is a really big deal!

People asked me if I was nervous about ticking off our Democrat customers.  I thought about it and said yes.  Because the fact of the matter is that I don’t really care what your political affiliations are.  We love all of our clients!  We really do—we appreciate them very much.  But I really could not miss this  chance.  It was a Bucket List kind of thing!

Des Moines Councilwoman Christine Hensley and Doctor Christine Taylor also spoke and were amazing. It was an honor to share the stage with these women.
