A Trip to Pre-Market

Was it worth it for me to drive 20 hours in 3 days to go to market in Norwalk, Ohio?

A resounding yes!

I left on Tuesday, spent the day at the factory on Wednesday and then drove back to Des Moines on Thursday. One of our designers traveled with me. I thought it would be fun for her to see the factory and, more importantly, meet the people at Norwalk Furniture. After all, we believe that the people are the heart of the company.

We have been designing with Norwalk Furniture since we first got in to the upholstery business in 1985. It is funny how I remember these things. We opened our first store, Wood Stock in 1977 and our daughter, Brooke, was born the same year. We opened Sofas by Design in 1985 and our son, Ross, was born that year. Our daughter, Lyndsay was born a year later. Wow!!! We were certainly busy at that time!

Norwalk has been a wonderful partner over the years. They are a community owned and oriented company with people who care. When we toured the factory, we got to see the pride and joy they take in their product.sofa

We got a sneak peek at the new product that they will be showing at market. We loved their new fabrics. You’ll be seeing a lot more of it over the next few months.  In fact, Laura used 3 new fabrics on a project that she presented the next day after we got back. All of the new fabrics are marked with a tag on our fabric wall making it easy for you to identify the new colors and trends.

We got a look at Norwalk’s new trends for spring, They are Char, Pastiche, Tartan and Tapestry and Grisaille. We will do a separate post on each of these color trends. Not totally unexpected, gray is still the neutral Color Story — but color is coming back strong!

Take a look at some of the pictures and you will see what I mean about the “heart of a company.”
Thank you to Norwalk Furniture for a great time!
