In my own home, I’ve used neutral fabrics on the main upholstery pieces and brought in color and interest with art, pillows and unexpected wall colors. I would call this style “classic contemporary”. It uses straight clean lines, timeless furniture styles and subtle patterns. I love furniture styles that can stand on their own — with a little attitude!
When designing a room with a client, the essential thing is to listen:
- How are they going to use the room?
- Who is going to use the room?
- Do they have kids or pets?
- Do they entertain?
- Do they need flexibility in furniture placement?
The more questions you ask, the easier it is to design a perfect space for your client. And, that is my favorite thing about design — to see my client so excited and pleased with the space! That is my greatest reward.
