Laura is a Senior Designer at by Design, having worked here since 1992.  She graduated from Iowa State with degree in Interior Design.

“I’ve made so many friends in the years that I’ve been at by Design.  I suppose that is a natural consequence of working so closely with a client on something that is so close to their heart: their home.  I’ve always felt that your home and your room should reflect your taste and lifestyle, no matter the scale of the project we work on.  If I’ve done my job well, you’ll find yourself feeling “at home” in your new surroundings… and hopefully we’ve had a lot of fun along the way.”

As a Des Moines native, Drake University interior design graduate, lighting showroom owner, and entrepreneur, I have honed my 30 year design career with expertise.  My love of design, art, architecture, lighting, furniture and other home furnishings has rewarded me with many clients who have become lifetime friends.  Whether you are blending nostalgia with new, trendy with traditional or have a blank canvas, I am here to help you create a total room plan or select that perfect accessory.  The motto in my home as well as my business is: “Come as friends…Leave as family!”  Come to by Design in Des Moines very soon and ask for Victoria.

In my own home, I’ve used neutral fabrics on the main upholstery pieces and brought in color and interest with art, pillows and unexpected wall colors.  I would call this style “classic contemporary”.  It uses straight clean lines, timeless furniture styles and subtle patterns.  I love furniture styles that can stand on their own — with a little attitude!

When designing a room with a client, the essential thing is to listen:

• How are they going to use the room?
• Who is going to use the room?
• Do they have kids or pets?
• Do they entertain?
• Do they need flexibility in furniture placement?

The more questions you ask, the easier it is to design a perfect space for your client.  And, that is my favorite thing about design — to see my client so excited and pleased with the space!  That is my greatest reward.

As busy as everyone is today, it is more important than ever for your home to be comfortable, functional for your lifestyle and to reflect your won individual style.
