Make Your Bed

We’ve just added a new group of custom upholstered beds to our floor. We’ve put them in our “neutrals” room and we’ve brought in three different profiles in fabrics and leathers to try to give a sense of the huge selection available.

And huge it is. You’ll be able to choose from different heights, different shapes, pleated or plain, deeply tufted or intricately patterned. Nail-head trim is available in a selection of finishes.

Add in thousands of leathers and fabrics and the choice is immense. Of course, you don’t need choice… you need the perfect bed for your room. And that is what a huge choice makes possible.

Between you and your designer, you’ll winnow the wheat from the chaff. The huge selection will rapidly narrow down, and you’ll focus in on just one with the design, the execution, the colors and the textures that will become the focal point and foundation of your perfect bedroom.

Norwalk Introduces 20 New Finish and Paint Colors

The wood finish of many upholstered pieces is a vitally important element of the design.  That’s why all of us at by Design are excited about Norwalk Furniture’s introduction of 20 new finishes and paints to be used on their custom upholstered sectionals, sofas, chairs and ottomans.

The richness and beauty of hard maple furniture is enhanced with Norwalk Furniture’s introduction of 20 new wood finishes. No longer just a supporting element, decorative chair frames, legs and bases become as special as the upholstery itself.

Norwalk worked with Sherwin-Williams Global Color & Design Center to create this collection of stains, paints and finishing techniques. These finishes are sure to be popular. They are a natural extension of by Design’s and Norwalk’s customization story.

I designed the Hemmingway sofa to stand the test of time, aging gracefully as a classic piece of furniture in your home.

Hemmingway is tall, tailored and comes across as somewhat formal, but when prompted, can totally relax! Nailhead trim accentuates the silhouette of the Hemmingway sofa, an updated wingback with recessed panel arms, three welted seat cushions, and three weltless loose pillow back cushions.

We love color at by Design.  Here are the new Mayfair sofa and chair upholstered in fun, vivid colors.  It is so much fun when a customer chooses to show this much color and confidence in their room.

The Mayfair is a beautiful new frame design.  Its most notable design element is the long sweeping track-like arms that flow right into the seat cushion level.  Its shown here with a single seat cushion which emphasizes the horizontal line and adds to the sense of scale and elegance.

This is a design that you’re likely to see a lot of around by Design.  The fact that both the sofa and the chair are so stunning as separate elements means we’ll use the chair frequently with other sofa or sectional designs.

You know, its almost a work of art in that smooth silvery leather.  And doesn’t it just scream sophistication?  If you want to introduce a note of high end sheen into your room, you could do worse than consider a piece like this.  And, the leather is glove soft.  All those looks… and comfort too!

Sure, its a beautiful home when you drive up.  But… wow… when you walk into the living room this home is stunning.  And, that is the result of a beautiful partnership between client and the by Design designer.  Here’s how Carol and Steve described the process:

We knew we wanted a sectional, but we were having difficulty finding a store that seemed to offer what we were looking for.  We visited with Kassie and she really listened to us.  She tried to understand our needs and asked about or interests and our activities.

When Kassie had some idea of what we wanted, she offered to come out to really see the space and get accurate measurements.  Afterwards she worked on the plan, communicated with us frequently and was constantly emailing us with ideas.  She’s a good listener (she worked within our budget) with a terrific sense of humor.

You can get… anything you want… at Candice’s restaurant, (including Alice), at Candice’s restaurant.  Sorry Arlo Guthrie.  Dang it, now that tune from the sixties is stuck in my head.

The Alice chairs that you see above (fresh from the design desk of Candice Olson) are a good example of how good furniture design alone is not sufficient to create a great room.  Check out the above images, then… BAM see the impact below when used with a great fabric selection in a great room.  This is how to do it.

This Easton room really nails that sophisticated, transitional look that we love so much.

The Easton sofa design is a perfect example of today’s design combining narrow track arms, simple lines with three over three seating and a subtle wood base with tapering wood legs.  Very cool.  Plus the narrow arms make it eminently usable in small spaces.

The Easton is a great chair design too.  In fact, we’ll likely work with far more chairs than sofas.  It has the same great looks and again the narrow track arms make it highly usable in tight spaces.  And most of us have a few tight spaces.

Candice Olson’s Hemingway sofa is a very handsome piece.  However, we think you’ll agree that that first photo just doesn’t do it justice.  The slight wingback effect on the tall back filled out with luxurious lumbar cushions — the nailhead trim.  All on a deep comfortable frame.

The style itself will support a number of looks, and to prove it, here it is in an elegant room.  It is the identical sofa, but its been dressed up with extra pillows in a faux leather look and a wonderful ottoman with a slightly more formal fabric pattern (also from Candice Olson).

This is a classic Candice look marrying livable style with a little glitz and glitter.  She creates a room with a wonderful private feel and public feel as well.
