This “featured” column is all about new — new furniture styles, new fabric designs, new ideas.  New!  Well, we’ve feature the Tousley before — its one of our favorite new designs.  Now we have it in a brand new look on the floor.  This time we’re showing it in a single sofa rather than a two or three piece sectional.  The addition of the sofa means you can use the Tousley in spaces that wouldn’t accommodate the larger sectional, making it perfect for many Des Moines and Iowa rooms that are beautiful — but smaller than an Olympic pool.

Also, Marlene had dressed it in a wonderful leather and paired it with the beautiful Diva chair in a contemporary print fabric.  Notice the small lumbar pillows in a striped fabric she added to the Tousley.  Then she added a fabulous rug (Marlene is a wizard with rugs).  The fun glass table you see with the group is called the Daisy.  The glass table top is actually shaped in a floral design.  Cool.

Daisy

We’ve just gotten the new Sammy condo sofa on our floor paired with the Basie chair and it looks terrific!  This is a great new addition from Candice Olson that grew out of frequent requests for contemporary furniture design with an emphasis on casual, comfortable living.

Candice responded with the Sammy, an uber-versatile collection of chairs, sofas and sectional furniture pieces.  Marlene picked the Basie chair (one of our favorites — and you can see why).  Then she lit the whole group up with a fabulous coral-colored contemporary floral fabric on the Basie.  Striped pillows and contrasting welts on the Sammy pull the Basie in.  Interior design, when done this way, is really fun!

When our rug arrives this group will really sing!  (Sing… get it?  Sammy… sing… c’mon, work with me here.)

The Alice Cocktail – Glass in Motion

There are all sorts of reasons that I can list as to why the Alice glass cocktail table is very practical.  Engineering reasons.  Functional use reasons.  Space reasons.  Reasonable reasons!  But heck… its really fun!  We love it.

I’m gonna come clean right away.  Every time I look at the Daisy glass cocktail table  on our floor, I envision it full of M&Ms.  Milk chocolate.  Peanut.  Full.  Mmmmm.  (Then I see myself diving into the M&Ms like Scrooge McDuck diving into his money, but I think our time is up and we’ll have to cover that in the next session).

Gloria Console

The is a really cool idea.  Of course you could leave the “fold” in the Gloria glass console table empty.  Or you could put the great bottle of wine for the evening in it.  Or champagne!  This will hold one of those really big bottles of champagne.  I’m sure there are non-alcoholic uses too.  Just can’t think of any at the moment.

Tripod Leg Table

We’ve brought a stunning new dining table and chair group to our floor at by Design.  The table is called (aptly enough) the Tripod leg table.  See how the designer has used three fitted pieces of wood to make each leg?  The result is visually light yet structurally strong and handsome as all get out.   We’ve chosen to show this group in a matte bleached finish, highlighting its contemporary lines.  The tripod leg would look equally stunning in one of the other finish choices.  As always, what is important is how it looks in your room.

The Woo (not a typo.  really.) dining chair is a statement of classic contemporary design.  The seat and back are upholstered in your choice of fabric.  This chairs is wonderfully executed.  We’re certain that you’ll be proud to own this design for years.

We’ve complemented the Wood with the Alta chair for this group.  We love showing a mix of designs.  Occasionally we’ll even suggest this idea for a customer’s room.  The Alta combines simplicity and flair.

One of the newest groups on the floor at by Design is the Meyer leather sofa.  The Meyer is wonderfully innovative: simply slide the back cushion up and it notches back onto the back of the sofa.  This movement gives you a higher back along with a reclining seating position.  It’s all about comfort!  Okay, its mostly about comfort.  Nahhh — it’s all about cool and then a lot about comfort.  The Meyer is cool.

We loved this idea when we first saw it in the plush Malibu leather sectional group.  The Meyer offers the same great functionality in a bit smaller profile to fit more rooms.

Everything else in the Meyer design lives up to the unique adjustable back.  The seat cushioning is soft and wonderful.  The leathers have such a soft hand.

The Oscar style is probably Candice Olson’s best selling furniture design.  Available as either a sofa, loveseat or chair, it is easily most popular at by Design as a sectional.  It’s shown here on our floor in Des Moines configured with a left-arm loveseat and chaise.  This style is so handsome and has such broad appeal.

Candice added luggage-stitched, tufted seating for increased comfort to the contemporary appeal of double-back sleek seating.  Oscar is available in thousands of fabric and leather selections.

The Alessandro leather sectional has been called “linear design with not-so-linear comfort”.  And is it comfortable!  It combines crisp lines with sink-in comfort in luscious leathers that you will love for years.  Check out the handsome European look wide metal feet.  by Design has the Alessandro on our floor right now,

Is there such a thing as a conversectional furniture?

Because that is what the new Corbin has been called.  The odd new word seems to better describe the Corbin’s ability to host the optimum number of guests in the most space-challenged homes and apartments.

This group is a head turner!  The unique square chrome drawer pulls sparkle off of the charcoal finish on birch veneer.  Details include painted  drawer interiors and self-closing Quadro system glides.  The bed is a platform bed and has two storage drawers in the foot board.

Here’s a way to make your room special — add the sweeping curve of the new Tousley sectional.  These curved lines add drama (or action and fun!) to your room.  Of course the fabric that you apply to any furniture style will set the mood.  That certainly goes for the Tousley where anything from serene sophistication to a sense of excitement is possible.

The three core pieces — the left arm loveseat, curved corner and right arm loveseat, work so well that it is easy to overlook other options.  For example, put the unique curved ottoman between the two one-arm loveseats and open up the group to a new sense of drama.  The simple track arms add a transitional element to the Tousley design.  But, if you use the armless loveseats you will take the design even more towards a contemporary look.

The Tousley chair is a great piece on its own.  The button tufting, track arms and tapered legs combined with the compact scale will make it a very popular chair to use with other living room styles.
