A Limited Addition Chair Design

We traveled out to Norwalk, Ohio to the Pre-market event.  Its great to get a heads-up on trends and colors.  Candice gave a presentation, and was terrific as usual.  She at length about how her design process has evolved over the years.  Good stuff.

One amazing item from the event is Candice’s new Lou Lou chair available in a limited addition fabric.  And get this:  they’ve woven Swarovski crystal into the fabric in a beautiful pattern.  This limited edition version of the Lou Lou wears Calvin linen in aqua, embellished with an elaborate design in Swarovski Elements aquamarine crystals on the inside back, and over-sized spaced silver nail heads just above the decorative wood base.  Amazing.

Here’s a comment by Candice:

“The Lou Lou Limited Edition Chair takes its cue from the fashion industry,” Olson says. “The soft tonal effect of aquamarine Swarovski Elements crystals on aqua linen creates quiet drama.”

I designed the Hemmingway sofa to stand the test of time, aging gracefully as a classic piece of furniture in your home.

Hemmingway is tall, tailored and comes across as somewhat formal, but when prompted, can totally relax! Nailhead trim accentuates the silhouette of the Hemmingway sofa, an updated wingback with recessed panel arms, three welted seat cushions, and three weltless loose pillow back cushions.

Here is a great example of simple done well.  Candice Olson’s Angie sofa is a simple, lifestyle design.  Stylish, yet comfortable feeling, it makes a relaxed, hip statement.  In this pic it is combined with Candice’s Buckley ottoman.  The Buckley has loads of character and detail and acts as the yin/yang in bringing this group to life.

Interesting to think that your room can echo your personality to any degree.  This room is about somewhat understated (but assuredly there when you look for it) style.  Confident.  Not stuffy.  Real.

Love Candice Olson?  Doesn’t it seem like she has something special?  A special sparkle?  She does.  And so do many of here fabrics.  Take “Glint” for example:  Lush.  Dressy.  Yet snuggle-in comfort.  Here is how Candice describes it:

It is no secret that I adore the play of light on fabrics. Add some reflective qualities like rayon yarns, embossed metallics, and deep textures and you have incredible drama! What I love about my Glint palette is the contrast of warm gold and cool platinum together in one space.

Candice Olson has introduce a luscious, elegant new fabric collection for her furniture collection.  It is a truly incredible introduction.  If you’re a Candice fan, you going to love it.  Here is Candice’s description:

I like to take classical designs inspired by architectural elements like fretwork, then stylize the room with a modern twist. The Allure palette indulges my love of modern neutrals and the play of light upon them.  Adding unexpected sparkle, gloss or luster can bring your room to life!

Generally, my signature look starts with a classic inspiration like this natural floral palette. Then, the modern attitude comes from materials, finishes and textures that create a contrast. I especially like how this palette is grounded with apple greens and golds.

The Milton sofa is a wonderful design from Candice Olson.  As much as all of us at by Design have loved it in the past, we think this new execution is one of the best we’ve managed.  Marlene has shown it in a relaxed and comfortable (but classy!) fabric.  The casual fabric on the somewhat formal lines of the sofa gives a visual surprise — which we think is a design technique that never grows old.

And don’t be fooled by the Calvin chair.  What appears to be a simple, traditional wing back chair is anything but.  Start with the severe (and amazingly comfortable) angle of the back, add in the nail head details, the almost contemporary tapered leg and the deep tufting — and you have the Calvin chair.  A chair that begins its own traditions.

The tables are the start of our Rustic Chic room in our store here in Des Moines.  We’re using warm taupe colors and recycled woods to create a warn & wonderful room.  More on this great look coming soon!

The Blues of Morocco: Spring Preview for High Point Market

Joe Ruggiero has always been one of our favorite people in the furniture & design industry.  Here is a snap of one fabric collection he is introducing for Sunbrella.  Maybe you should think about adding the soothing, wonderful colors of the Mediterranean to your sun room.

Joe’s comment:  The shades of blues to enhance any room, indoors or outdoors. These blues will be featured in our showroom for Spring 2011.
