A Limited Addition Chair Design

We traveled out to Norwalk, Ohio to the Pre-market event.  Its great to get a heads-up on trends and colors.  Candice gave a presentation, and was terrific as usual.  She at length about how her design process has evolved over the years.  Good stuff.

One amazing item from the event is Candice’s new Lou Lou chair available in a limited addition fabric.  And get this:  they’ve woven Swarovski crystal into the fabric in a beautiful pattern.  This limited edition version of the Lou Lou wears Calvin linen in aqua, embellished with an elaborate design in Swarovski Elements aquamarine crystals on the inside back, and over-sized spaced silver nail heads just above the decorative wood base.  Amazing.

Here’s a comment by Candice:

I designed the Hemmingway sofa to stand the test of time, aging gracefully as a classic piece of furniture in your home.

Hemmingway is tall, tailored and comes across as somewhat formal, but when prompted, can totally relax! Nailhead trim accentuates the silhouette of the Hemmingway sofa, an updated wingback with recessed panel arms, three welted seat cushions, and three weltless loose pillow back cushions.

It’s a bit different, but we think you’ll really like our new Markdown program.

Aging merchandise is a reality for any retail store, and by Design is surely no different.  We only select merchandise that we think is cool and exciting for our store.  Unfortunately we’re not always clairvoyant.  Some of the cool stuff just doesn’t sell.  Then, like any other retailer, we mark the price down so that we can reinvest in merchandise our customers may like better.  We’ve decided to change that a bit.

When new accessories and accents arrive, we already know what point in time they need to be marked down to move them out.  So we’ve decided to put those dates and prices on some of our tags immediately.  Here is a sample of a new tag:

First you see the comparative Made to Sell at price and Our Price.  The item will stay at Our Price for an initial period.  Then you see the table of markdowns.  As of the date of this writing (9/29/11) the price would be $369.00.  If you love the piece you may buy it at that price.  Or, if you’re a bargain hunter you may choose to check back after 11/15 to save an additional $41.00!

We hope that this system is good for everybody.  Can’t live without it?  Take it home today.  Hoping for a better price?  Check back again, if we’ve still got it you get a bargain!

One note: our upholstery is tagged in a completely different manner.  Of course it still occasionally get clearanced out, but you’ll see specific clearance sale tags applied when that time has come.
